152 stakes winners for Deep Impact

09 Mar 2020 11:18

The late, great Deep Impact (sire of Mauritzfontein’s exciting G1 winning sire Danon Platina) made headlines this weekend, when the Sakae Kunieda-trained Satono Flag (3 c ex Balada Sale by Not For Sale) won Sunday’s Hochi Hai Yayoi Sho Deep Impact Kinen (Gr 2, 2000m) at Nakayama to provide the late Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) with his 152nd stakes winner.

The Northern Farm-bred colt defeated Wakea (Heart’s Cry) by one and three quarter lengths with another half-length back to Authority (Orfevre) in third.

Now the winner of three of his four career starts, Satono Flag is out of the champion Argentinian mare Balada Sale (Not For Sale) who has produced four winners from as many named foals with the son of Deep Impact her only stakes winner to date.

Deep Impact, who sits at the head of the leading sires table in Japan by earnings, died last July at the age of 17.
