First stakes winner for Fire Away 20 Mar 2023 08:56
Wilgerbosdrift’s
sensational young sire Fire Away came up with his first stakes winner when his
two-year-old daughter Luna Halo stormed home to win Friday’s Listed East Cape
Fillies Nursery (1200m) at Fairview impressively.
Trained by Alan Greeff, Luna Halo had won by five and a quarter lengths on
debut before going on to finish a close up fourth in the Bloodstock SA Sales
Cup (Fillies) at Kenilworth next time out.
That form saw the Fire Away filly dispatched as 11-10 tote favourite for the
2023 East Cape Fillies Nursery and she duly lived up to expectations.
Settled midfield early on by Richard Fourie, Luna Halo produced a fine turn of
foot which saw her get up to win going away by a length and a half.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Luna Halo has now won twice from
just three starts.
Out of the Captain Al mare Sun Sentinel, Luna Halo was a R160 000 buy from the
2022 National Yearling Sale.
She is one of six first crop winners, thus far, for Fire Away, who had a
notable double at Turffontein the day before where son Fire ‘N Flames and
daughter Egyptian Mau both won their respective races.
The red hot Fire Away is also the sire of exciting filly Rani Of Kittur, who
holds entries for both the G3 Protea Stakes and G3 Pretty Polly Stakes.
