FIELDS OF OMAGH DIES 08 Jun 2023 14:04
Two-time Cox Plate champion Fields Of Omagh has died, aged 25.
He won his first Cox Plate in 2003.
The iron horse competed in Australia’s premier weight-for-age race on a record five occasions in an era that featured champions such as Sunline, Northerly, Lonhro and Makybe Diva.
Fields Of Omagh spent his post-racing days at Melbourne’s Living Legends farm where he was a fan favourite known for his gentle nature.
“Foo was a very special horse, our foundation horse, a wonderful racehorse competing in five Cox Plates and winning twice against the best of his time,” Living Legends CEO and Veterinary Director Andrew Clarke said.
“But also, he was a gentle horse and a flag bearer of what Living Legends is all about.”
Best known for his Cox Plate heroics, Fields Of Omagh was only a head away from also being a Caulfield Cup winner, narrowly edged out by Northerly in 2002.
Fields Of Omagh, who won 13 races from 45 starts, also competed abroad in Group 1 events in Japan, Hong Kong and Dubai.
