Lope Y Fernandez became the latest freshman sire to get off the mark when Social Exclusion struck at Southwell on Wednesday.
The James Owen-trained filly hails from the first crop of the National Stud’s Lope Y Fernandez, a son of Lope De Vega who was himself a classy juvenile performer.
Having sold to MV Magnier for €900,000 at Arqana as a yearling, he notched up two wins at two for Aidan O’Brien and Coolmore, including the Round Tower Stakes
Lope Y Fernandez started his three-year-old campaign with a third in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and also placed in the Prix Jean Prat, Prix Maurice de Gheest and Breeders’ Cup Mile.
A son of Lope De Vega, Lope Y Fernandez retired to the National Stud in 2022 for an opening fee of £8,500 and he duly covered over 400 mares in his first three seasons at stud. He stands this year for a fee of £7,500.
