VALE FROSTED 16 Apr 2026 10:12
Darley stallion Frosted has succumbed to an acute episode of laminitis and was humanely euthanized on April 15th at Jonabell Farm. The son of Tapit, and brilliant Met Mile record-setter, will be greatly missed.
A Godolphin homebred, Frosted was a three-time winner at Grade 1 level, including a tour-de-force in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap.
Frosted won the G1 Wood Memorial Stakes, and G2 Pennsylvania Derby during his 3-year-old season. He also ran second that year in the Belmont Stakes, G2 Jim Dandy Stakes, and G2 Holy Bull Stakes. Third in the G1 Travers Stakes and fourth in the Kentucky Derby, Frosted really blossomed as a 4-year-old, adding a score in the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 2 in the spring at Meydan, prior to returning stateside and demolishing rivals in a new Stakes record of 1:32.73 in the Met Mile by 14 1/4 lengths at Belmont. He then added the historic G1 Whitney S. at Saratoga in August.
Frosted sired a total of 35 group or graded stakes horses, 14 graded stakes winners, with seven on the board at the highest level.
