11 Aug 2020 10:35

Wilgerbosdrift’s well performed son of War Front, – Fire Away, gained an impressive boost, when Speech won Saturday’s G1 Central Bank Ashland Stakes at Keeneland.

The filly put up a sparkling, three-length victory in track-record time in Saturday’s feature which accounted for her initial graded stakes victory and assured Speech of a spot in the Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1).

The talented Speech is from the first crop of Fire Away’s high-class half-brother Mr Speaker, with the latter winning six times including the G1 Belmont Derby.

A son of Pulpit, millionaire Mr Speaker has already come up with five stakes horses from his first crop, with Speech his first G1 winner.

Mr Speaker and Fire Away were both produced by Unbridled’s G2 Demoiselle Stakes runner up daughter Salute, herself a daughter of unbeaten Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Personal Ensign.

Fire Away, who earned over $600 000 during his career, won the G3 Dixie Stakes and also ran third, to G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner World Approval, in the G3 Tampa Bay Stakes.
