DURBAN JULY 2020 PREVIEW – CHARLES FAULL

26 Jul 2020 14:48

Too many question marks====HOW TO RATE SOME TOP CLASS 3Y0s ?====A median WFA allowance for 3YOs over 2200m in July is 7lb

DO IT AGAIN– has a swing of 2 lb in his favour despite his win last year :  1600 and 2000 m are too short for him .GOLD CHALLENGE prep was excellent

RAINBOW BRIDGE –the race is riddled with unknowns , but one thing we know for sure is that this grand 5YO will run his usual big race  He has furnished into a magnificent 5YO and what a trial in the GOLD CHALLENGE !

SOQRAT–How great was this Summer Handicap 2nd at the weights by Soqrat ?! Was a little disappointed that he couldn’t get closer to world class Hawwaam I the Champions Challenge , but Mike De Kock feels he may have “still needed it”  That Summer Hcp was packed with top bang- in-form runners , including Barahin who had just demolished a strong stakes field- Must respect Soqrat for all exotics

TIERRA DEL FUEGO — take note of how close he was to two serious horses at levels He drops to 53 kg and has an ever dangerous Gavin Lerena on his back. Jet Master’s son Skitt Skizzle has made an interesting start at stud

VARDY –that was a serious win in the LQP, He was closing like a bullet in the GOLD CHALLENGE , but will he stay…He thumped ONE WORLD over 1800m at 3 -He was hampered in the Met where he usual explosive finish was missing. But remember he descends from a classic (2400m) German family and his connections must believe he can get the trip=Great to see him in probably the strongest July field ever-A BIG UNKNOWN

BUNKER HUNT–As good a trial as any with that late run victory in the Drill (that’s a typo in the chart comment) We saw his potential against HAWWAAM in the Premiers. Grant Van Niekerk and only 55 kg puts him right in the picture in a very open looking race

BELGARION– A grand looking 4YO son of DYNASTY from Dynasty’s family , goes for 5 in a row. That wide margin win in the WSB 1900 suggests that he is the best in with only 53 kg , but from 17 draw Richard Fourie will have to be at his masterful best in a race notorious for interference in the running. He looks the obvious horse in  race which sadly is decided by the handicapper and NOT MERIT , but as we all know it is a race on a turning track and they don’t run in lanes -Also in his favour is that the stable has has a natural front runner who should ensure a strong pace
DIVINE ODYSSEY–Two performances that earn this top class son of Oratorio the utmost respect for exotics. In the 2019 Champions Challenge he had some top horses behind him and his Jubilee Hcp win under top weight was brilliant

IT’S MY TURN–Shockingly excuded from the VDJ Field after winning the Track And Ball Derby at 5 , this fine 7YO son of Dynasty has been masterfully brought back by Dean Kannemeyer to run 2nd in the same race in 2020. He is certainly weighted with a chance for money with Sean Veale to ensure that he has every chance

MIYABI GOLD–Was 2,45 lengths behind DO IT AGAIN in last years July and is now back as a 5Y0 mare and possibly an improved horse.  Her East Coast Hcp romp under top weight last time could not have been more impressive. She is actually a pound worse off with DO IT AGAIN this year , but with a good draw and only 52 kg you would be unwise to leave her out of your perms

SILVANO’S PRIDE– This top class daughter of Silvano thrives in Durban , loves Greyville and with a dominant win in the Tibouchina confirmed that she is ready to rumble with the boys tomorrow -She is probably going to the front with 52 kg and will stay every yard of the trip. With 5 primed to the moment runners in the race , Justin Snaith goes into battle with the strongest hand ever in the history of the race

TWIST OF FATE–This balletique mover never runs a bad race-He was a terrific third as a 3YO last and from a good draw with Aldo up will deliver another brave performance
CAPOEIRA–Earned a place in the field with this impressive at the weights in the Cup Trial-He has got a good draw and bottom weight , and don’t forget the umpteen shock July place getters at 40/1 who were going the right distance for the first time

GOLDEN DUCAT–PADRE PIO—SHANGO–GOT THE GREENLIGHT—Four of the best of the three-year old crop-They are like 19 year old humans up against grown men. The mean WFA allowance is around 7 lb   , but numerous 3YOs have improved by 14 lb and more from their 3Y0 to 4 ,5 and 6YO July form eg Sea Cottage , Politician , Futura , etc
